Marketing Your Home Based Business Online

If you’ve ever met with me in person, been to one of my trainings, or are marketing your home based business online, you know that I always say that you must start with keyword research.

This remains true. Keyword research is the most critical component of  marketing your home based business online.

Imagine writing a blog that is value driven and full of great content that nobody can find. That’s not good! The purpose of creating value driven content is to drive traffic to your online offers.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if you’re marketing your home based business online, your goal is to make money.

Marketing exists to drive sales. So, any marketing activity that you spend time on should lead to sales of your products and/or services. Getting opt-ins on your blog, ie. building your list, is also a  positive result of marketing your home based business online.

It all begins with keywords. Keywords are the words and phrases people search for when they visit a search engine (Google). If your site and your content does not have the right keywords, no one will be able to find it.

Have you ever heard of the phrase, begin with the end in mind? Let’s look at this post as an example.

1. End Result

My ultimate goal with this post is to get as many people as I can to register for tomorrow night’s webinar, hosted by the infamous Bluseman of MLM, on keyword research.

This is important to me because the Google Keyword Tool is no longer available and I think it’s important that if you’re marketing your home based business online, you should learn how to learn a new way of doing keyword research that is not dependent on the old Google Keyword Tool.

Pick a Keyword that supports my end goal

For this blog post, I chose the keyword “marketing your home based business online.” This is a long tailed keyword and specifically targets people who are searching for information on how to market a home based business online.

Now, in the past, I would go to the Google Keyword Tool to see if that keyword got any traffic. Without the Google Keyword Tool, I can’t do that. They have a replacement, Google Keyword Planner, but I haven’t figured out how to use it yet.

2. Create Content

If a keyword gets any traffic, usually around 100 searches/month is my minimum, I will write an article or create a video around that keyword. If not, I will search for another keyword based around the same topic that gets more traffic.

Because I create content daily, this is a process that I go through every day in hopes of ranking new content.

3. Rinse and Repeat

Now, there’s more work that goes into promoting and backlinking my content after the keyword is selected but that’s for another post. Essentially, I do it all again.

Even though I have plenty of content on my blog, a lot of it is not keyword optimized.

Before I seriously began marketing online, I didn’t go through this process. I just created content just to create, with no end result in mind. Although I wanted to make money blogging, I didn’t have the proper skills or tools in place to monetize my blog.

Acquiring the proper skills for blogging has been instrumental in turning my blog into a money making machine.

Here’s where I learned those skills.
